A review of Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova.

This book was such a pleasant surprise! It's been on my TBR for a really long time, but it was one of those books that I just never got around to reading until now. I'm so happy that I did!

Labyrinth Lost is a beautiful urban fantasy, combining the bustling streets of Brooklyn with the ever-changing realm of the dead - Los Lagos. It read like a dream, and reminded me of a mixture of Alice in Wonderland, Percy Jackson, and Dante's Inferno.

The protagonist, Alex, is a bruja (witch) who hates her magic. On her Deathday, when she's supposed to receive her family's blessing and fully come in to her power, she instead chooses to deny her power and creates a spell that accidently sends her family into the land of the dead. Rather than relishing in finally being the normal girl she's always wanted to be, Alex joins forces with Nova, a mysterious boy who's captured a part of her heart, and Rishi, her best friend that may become something...more. Together, the three of them encounter the dangers of Los Lagos in order to save not only Alex's family, but their world as well.

This was such an amazing read! The characters and the realm of Los Lagos are beautifully crafted, and it was incredibly original as well. I love the mixture of rich Mexican culture and fantasy magic - it was absolutely beautiful! I also really enjoyed the diverse cast of characters that truly made the novel great. The only thing that I found that I didn't like about this book was the love triangle, which seemed a little bit bland to me, and the fact that the writing felt stilted and boring a couple of times. However, those weren't by any means drawbacks to the book as a whole.

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova - 5 out of 5 stars
